Canadian Ski Resort – Sunshine Village Ski Resort
hello. This is the third introduction to Canadian ski resorts. This time it is Sunshine Ski Resort.
gondola
Sunshine is the second largest ski area in the Rocky Mountains. The first is, of course, the Lake Louise ski resort, and Sunshine is a ski resort as big as Lake Louise in terms of size alone. What’s unique is that you take a gondola from the ski resort’s parking lot to the hillside to the village and climb 500 meters for about 25 minutes to reach the actual main base.
I think this is a disadvantage, but at Lake Louise Ski Resort, on cold days, you can ride the gondola to warm up your body, but in the case of Sunshine, the gondola only goes up from the parking lot to the main base, and there is a lift from the base to the top of the mountain.
Heating Seat
Instead of a gondola, there is a lift with a cover and heated seats. If you ride this, you can still get a little warmer.
Advantages
The advantage of Sunshine is that it takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes by car from Calgary, which is about 20 minutes closer than Lake Louise, and it is located inside the Rocky Mountains, so on clear days, you can see the Rocky Mountains spreading out to the left and right from the top.
disadvantage(?)
However, the reason I don’t go to Sunshine often is because the parking lot is small, so if you go late, you may have to park your car on the street, and there is often a flat section in the middle of the slope, so first-time snowboarders don’t know much about it, so if you slow down and go in, you have to take off your board and walk while holding it. There are cases where this happens. Of course, once you experience it, you can speed up and get by just fine.
Of course, if you have never been there, you must go there at least once. Haha, it’s a ski resort that you must visit at least once just for the view from the top, and there are many fun courses, so I recommend going there and experiencing it first.
Home page + interactive map
If you go to the Sunshine website, there is an interactive slope map, so go and take a look.
So, happy riding!
